To the Caribbean Side! Puerto Viejo
We didn't spend an extensive amount of time in Puerto Viejo due to transportation complications meaning we arrived later than expected!
However we had two full nights and one full day - we opted to stay at "Hostel Kinkaju" which is in a fantastic location, just a few minutes to the main strip and seaside but set back just enough for it to be quiet and tranquil.
We spent our day wandering around Puerto Viejo itself, although we heard it's a great base for day trips too!
We walked the Main Street which isn't huge but there's lots of Bars, Restaurants, Sodas (a cheaper/faster version of a restaurant but slightly more than a cafe) and lots of shops. We chose to eat - unauthentically - at a wood burning pizza oven pizza place. But we have no regrets as it was delicious, they advertise themselves as "the best pizza in the world" and that may be an exaggeration but it was pretty damn good. Starting with some warm tortilla chips and freshly made guacamole followed by our tuna, onion, sweet peppers and garlic pizza whilst watching the waves crashing on the shore.
Other than wandering around Puerto Viejo, lying on the beach, finding a beach swing to spend some time on - we didn't do much. Mainly because the weather is hot and also there isn't a huge amount to do. As I mentioned earlier a lot of the people we spoke to had used Puerto Viejo for day trips. We enjoyed the down time though!
