Hike from San Sebastián to Pasaia via Mount Ulia
This hike takes about 2hrs30mins which accounts for photo stops along the way. It's a moderately tough and steep climb getting up to the actual path from San Sebastián, think lots of steps, steep hills and winding paths but the views make it worth it.
Before starting this hike - there are no taps or water stops along the way (or at least none that I encountered) so make sure you take plenty of water.
The hike starts near Zurriola Beach, set back in the town, on a road called 'Zemoriya Kalea' - it's important at this point to look at the road names for the first part, make sure that you're always on Zemoriya Kalea as it twists and turns up Mount Ulia. At first you'll feel like you're walking up public roads in a residential area but don't worry it soon narrows into a path... One with lots of steps at the start!
Once you start the hike you'll soon see signs telling you the colour code for Pasaia, follow the red and white horizontal line markings. There are plenty of signposts along the way to guide you, tell you how many kilometres to go and also the time it should take you to complete from that point.
The views on this coastal path are incredible and although the path is busy at parts, you'll also find tranquility on the mountain during this hike.
It is straight forward with plenty of ups and downs for those that want a challenge. About 2hrs in you will start to see Pasaia down below or in the distance. Then it's pretty much a downward walk into Pasaia. A great place to stop and refuel before jumping on the E9 Bus back to San Sebastián which takes about 10minutes!
To find the bus simply follow the port town around as it naturally veers left, past restaurants, bars and shops until you find the end; look left and there's a bus stop there - the bus comes every 10minutes and makes various stops throughout San Sebastián!
